“True Life: I’m Genderqueer” Comes To Logo And MTV For Transgender Awareness Week

by 11/13/2015 MTV and Logo are airing True Life: I’m Genderqueer next week in honor of Transgender Awareness Week. The special debuts on MTV on Tuesday, November 17 at 11pm, as part of the network’s Look Different campaign. It premieres on Logo, Wednesday, November 18, at 10am—followed by the television premiere of Beautiful As I Want To Be. Both networks will promote transgender-focused programming, articles and resources during the week to celebrate the rich diversity within the transgender community, as well as shed light on the issues the community faces. MTV and Logo will also incorporate the transgender flag into social icons and host an online vigil for those lost to violence. True Life: I’m Genderqueer spotlights two young people who reject traditional gender labels and identify outside of the categories of male and female. Jacob, 24, lives in New York City and defines their identity without using labels. “It’s about embracing the fact that gender is complicated,” they explain. The episode follow’s Jacob’s evolving relationship with their father, who feels uncomfortable with Jacob’s open embrace of being genderqueer.
