Nick Jonas Thinks More Straight Artists Should Embrace Their Gay Fans

December 13, 2015

Nick Jonas is sporting yet another trenchcoat on the cover of L’Uomo Vogue’s December 2015 issue, and is talking about his swelling gay fan base in an accompanying interview.

The 23-year-old pop star has embraced the LGBT community by playing gay men in his two most recent TV roles on Kingdom and Scream Queens, but said that he doesn’t necessarily feel like that makes him a “gay icon.”

“It’s an honor, but I don’t think of myself as an icon,” he said. “There should be a lot more straight artists who don’t have a problem with having gay fans. I’m really proud to play gay characters and I’ll continue to do so.”

The interview is brief but Nick also managed to reveal where he’d like to take his career next.

“I’d like to go back to Broadway,” he said, “but with something written by me. That’s what I really miss”.
